September 5

Class spent the day learning about one of the most versatile pieces of equipment in the shop: the Band Saw.

Students were shown the safety quiz and instructional videos (as annotated by Mr. Zartler) at http://www.maucks.com/safety/band-saw/

Next class there will be live demos's and the safety quiz so that students may then practice saw usage under guidance.

Students were asked to get a note book for the class (preferably unlined).

Some general info explored today includes:
Band Saw Safety

1.    Your board must lay flat on the table.
2.    Never feed material faster than the machine will cut safely
3.    Never back out of a long cut without turning off the machine.  You will pull the blade off of the guide wheels if you forget.
4.    Adjust blade guard so it is ¼” or less above the stock being cut.
5.    Feed small parts with a push stick.
6.    Make relief cuts when cutting circles and corners with a radius.
