Students learned about how to read the grain in order to properly put a piece of wood into the planner.

Students worked in groups to practice use of the planner.

Wood, like a cat, MUST be handled in a direction that does not ruffle the fibers. Petting a cat against the grain will result in getting scratched; planning wood against the grain will result in tearout.

Understanding how the rollers feed work into the planner helps identify which way the cutting head turns. This tells you which way the fibers / grain in a piece need to be oriented in order to get a clean cut.

Students also had time to complete retakes on the bandsaw; do a bandsaw demo; or to do a practice cut on the miter saw.

By now all students should have turned in scale working drawings and a successful bandsaw test.
